Can't Alabama Democrats do better?
I just read that there are two candidates for the Democrat nomination for Attorney General:
1) Larry Darby, who runs an "Athiest Law Center" and advocates holocost denial, white supremacy, legalizing drugs, and shooting illegal immigrants.
2) John Tyson, Mobile County District Attorney
3) Yet, 68% are undecided (???)
Surprisingly, Larry Darby has 12% of support. That's a lot for a nut. I don't know what John Tyson's views are, but if he is a mainstream Democrat, they are probably far more acceptible.
The Alabama Democrat party has not decided what to do with the candidacy of Darby. They say his views are outside of what is acceptible. Although a Republican, I guess that even the Democrat party considers a Zell Miller (barely) acceptible - like the Republican party accepts Lincoln Chafee (barely) acceptible. What I can't figure out is, how 68% can be undecided. I would figure that even if John Tyson is a mainline Democrat, his support should be much, much higher even in Alabama. I would even support a mainline Democrat over this nut, unless the Tyson has views akin to Jim McDermott, at which I would support no one.
I guess this is the south, which I do not understand. Although the only candidate I am giving money to this election cycle is a southern Republican (who has a shot of defeating an incumbent Democrat over the immigration issue), Vernon Robinson in North Carolina.
Although they are a competing army, there is a time for someone on the other side to give some serious advise. In 1980, when Tom Metzger - who I call an "interracial racist" (also a kook) - won the Democrat primary in the San Diego area, the district Democrat party endorsed the Republican. They should threaten that, if Larry Darby wins the primary, they will endorse the Republican. That should get the Democrat voters to support Tyson. I don't see the vote for the AG office as strong enough to encourage "crossover voting" - I suppose this is something for the senatorial/gubenatorial offices. So I do not see really how they can lose by taking this position.
